My quick feel about the film, Bala(Director) is brave enough to attempt making dry subjects with commercial sense.
The film talks about the life of beggars. It also deals how their courage broken along with their limbs to let them adapt it as their profession. Thandavan(the villain) adds life to his role and i really hate him on the screen.
I'm surprised when i found the movie is about the "Life of Beggars" instead "Life of Aghoris"(as it was marketed). Pooja dons the lead role. Though Arya makes a wonderful remark as Aghori but it seems Arya and the Aghori things are all marketing bluff to include some action into the movie.
Pooja is a blind beggar girl, she is blessed with pleasing vocal skills which she used to beg by singing in the train. And the story mostly narrates about the difficulties faced by the character. Though she acted well but most of the times her lip syncing didn't in coherence with the song she sung. This feel might be due to the different singers used for songs which is much dissimilar with the dubbing voice.Arya is used like a salt to cater the commercial taste buds. He was given a role which is used to start and end the film. Kudos to him, he is really impressive in his efforts to adapt himself as an Aghori.
Apart from the Hero & Heroine, there is a whole lot of unique characters you can praise about in this story. Most of the characters are physically challenged either by naturally or forced so for begging. And the artists were picked mostly from the real life which adds strength to the concept. (They are not the kind of beggars that i mentioned in one of my previous post.)
Though its a dry platform which has less chances for a faster screenplay, the director should be appreciated for riding it faster enough with lots of pun among the dialogues(without a separate comedy track). His attempt to stay away from the usual track to cultivate the wholehearted fun at the most discomfort zone as yield well.
Ilayaraja's BGM joins Arthur Wilson's camera to narrate the story whenever the dialogue takes rest.
The film has atheist comments spread all over. To the crown of all, in the climax before the heroine getting killed, she speaks a lengthy dialogue which questions god of all the religions for the frustrations imposed on her life (with the most agreeable tone to the believers). One more punch is one of the old hapless beggar calling god as "b$#%ard" with frustration at his peak when his mate consoled him by saying "god will take care of all of our burdens" which received with applauds from the audience(i don't know whether its the spread of atheism amongst the people or their involvement in the story).
The film is watchable. And with strong belief in Bala's perfection i doubt the censor board played a little with the screenplay.
