Movie Review : "Poo"

Last weekend i saw a tamil movie "Poo" along with one of our colleague. Though i heard mixed reviews but didn't expected much out of it. Its not a planned one and we decided it very late. Hence we have to rush in to theater(udayam) at the last moment. But surprisingly the tickets were still available at the uncrowded counter. At once i just had a little suspect about the quality of the movie but that didn't stopped us watching the film.

Its a surprise again when we entered into the theater, the seats are less than half filled, which sums up to our panic towards the quality of the movie. At this moment the only thing that makes us happy is the easiness to reach our seat even though the film already started.

Once settled, i was immediately attracted towards the celluloid mix of a village. Nice photography indeed and consistent all over the film.

The film was about a village girl( supposed to be honest, innocent, introvert & lovable) and her shattered dreams. I was mesmerized by the performance of the girl(Parvathy as Mari alias Mariammal) who took the lead role. She perfectly delivers exactly what the character needs. She is just outstanding even at some lengthy emotional close up shots.

Since i have a huge village background which i think lets me easily accustom to the thick layer of native emotions spread across the film.

The story is just simple: A village girl who loves her relative very much like anything and end up not marrying him. The guy refuses marrying her since he came to know that marriage among close relations has the high probability to birth of disabled childs. Still she loves to be a well wisher of his successful married life and was shattered when she found him living with a distressful life. And the film ends with a outburst endless cry of the heroine thinking of her shattered dream.

The film is composed of thin story line but the narration makes the merry of the movie. And its a very good experiment in the Hero dominated film industry. Kudos to the hero "Srikanth" for accepting this role, since there is no weightage for the hero and the story fully revolves around the heroine.

Songs are good, "Chu Chu Maari" children rhyming stays easily in the mind.

Only thing which can be negatively criticised is the comedy track. The jokes are very much lengthy, detailed and not so trendy. Director should concentrate more on his sense of humour to deliver more crispy laughter substances.

Unlike the fear i had on entering the theater, the movie is a very satisfactory one.Its been a long time since i have seen a film which let us exit the theater with a lump in the throat(though not much but without any usual tragedy is a good try, its just simple "shattered dreams").

I would recommend this as a watchable one.

  2. He is Kannan from zoho projects team.

Rhythmic connotations makes me looks alike a complicated writer and i just want to practice simple narrative english.

Will try occasional rhythmic sentences in my upcoming write-ups. :)

  4. Yes Buddy, But my parents are not native but settled in kanchipuram before i born, actually they are from surrounding village far by 5-10km. So we used to spend most of our vacations over there in the village with my grandparents. That is what i mentioned in this post.
